Old Street Bak Kut Teh (Plaza Singapura)

Nothing beats a hot bowl of peppery Bak Kut Teh on a cold, rainy day. Old Street Bak Kut Teh is a modern take on the traditional Teochew dish. Over at Old Street, you have a fancy iPad ordering system, a dry rendition of Bak Kut Teh and a wide array of dips and sauces.

Don't get me started on the condiments. Apart from the typical dark sauce and chili padi, they also have a chicken-rice-esque chili sauce, raw minced garlic (yummy) and a peanut sauce (yummier). Trust me you'll be spoiled for choice over at Old Street.

This sweet, creamy peanut sauce is an absolute treat! We don't know what is was meant for, but it goes really well with the pork ribs.

We went for the large portion of Pork Ribs Soup ($10.40). You don't get to choose what cut of meat you want, so our bowl came with a mixture of soft bones and spare ribs -- both were very tender. We found Old Street's soup to be extra peppery as compared to other pepper versions we've had before. Oh and don't forget to ask for refills (:

To compliment our Bak Kut Teh, we ordered some incredibly expensive braised peanuts ($3.30). Next time, we'll bring our own can of peanuts ($0.70 from Fairprice) ...

S loves his chili padi. Can you imagine doing this for every spoonful of pork ribs?

Although slightly on the pricey side, we will definitely be back for more Bak Kut Teh at Old Street!
